Stuart, FL asked in Civil Rights and Animal / Dog Law for Florida

Q: I need my fur baby back, please

I was literally forced to give away my Bella, I am disabled and I have had my little girl for 8 years, she became my emotional support dog, I lost a child in 2003 Bella helped me with that loss, she got sick and I took her to an animal hospital, the vet told me she needed an operation that was going to cost 5000 dollars, I make 1091 a month, I called around for credit and they gave me a line of credit at the hospital website, but it was only 1500 dollars the vet told me he wouldn't make partial payments I was stuck! he said he could put her down for 500 I cried NO and he told me the only option that was left was to surrender her to a local no-kill shelter, in order to save her life I brought her there I have been a reck ever since. I can't sleep I can't eat it's making me and my daughter sick, my daughter is also attached to Bella, she's part of our family, I only gave her to that shelter so she could have a fighting chance at life. but I want her back please can I have her back? pls

A: Makes no sense, and sounds like you've been defrauded. Are you saying that giving her to the shelter gets the dog FREE surgery, then the dog belongs to someone else?? - but for you, it would cost $5K?? Also, euthanizing, at most clinics, costs WAY LESS than $500. First, run back to the shelter RIGHT NOW to say you've decided to keep the dog. If they return the dog, take her to another vet for another opinion. If they don't immediately return her, give them a written demand, with a copy for yourself, and get the first and last name of the employee you are dealing with. Contact the Fla. You also can hire an attorney, but the fees could get into many hundred of dollars, if not thousands, to spend the hours on pursuing the matter.
