Fair Oaks, CA asked in Child Custody, Child Support, Domestic Violence and Family Law for California

Q: Am seeking knowledge regarding parental rights when other party has prevented contact with my child

I hope this reaches someone who is able to help me. I was served a summons and complaint for child support for my 7 year old son. It isnt that its a large amount of money that I am not willing to pay. I have no problem supporting my child whenever I can - my issue is that I havent seen him or talked to him in a couple years because my ex kicked me out of our home (i wasnt on the lease because of previous eviction) and due to my status as a stay at home mom, i had limited work history and was unemployed. That being said, being kicked out was devastating and I have been homeless trying to survive ever since. Ive been dealing with a lot of grief and ptsd regarding the situation, but have managed to find work here and there' howeve, nothing that is permanent yet. Ive tried to reach out but I havent asked for any type of visitation or custody because of my lack of housing and other necessities that would be essential for proper care of a child. I take my role as a mother very serious - help
