La Puente, CA asked in Civil Rights for California

Q: What to do with a small non profit church who is creating noise disturbance & plans on making a building next door?

Need advice on how to handle the small church who is having outdoor services under a tent next door to my residential home. I have spoken to them about the noise being to loud & if they can lower the volume or get rid of some instruments. There preaching / singing can be heard all the way down the street on opposite ends. They do not care or listen to my concerns. They also plan on building an actual church building but upon seeing the blueprint the stage would be located to the wall close to my home. The church will also be causing traffic since its a residential / commercial street.

A: You can contact your city's code enforcement department and file a complaint against the property owner. There may also be zoning issues which your neighbor may be violating. Your local city is the best place to start to protect your own rights. I suggest you start there, before you seek legal assistance.

If the city does not help you, then consider finding an attorney or law firm which has experience representing homeowners whose right to the use and enjoyment of their property is being impinged.
