Grove City, OH asked in Landlord - Tenant for Ohio

Q: I need to terminate my lease early but the manager and owner has now cut off all communication with me

Our 1 year lease is up in October 2021. Due to some unforseen family issues we need to terminate our lease early. I texted the manager, explained the situation and asked her our options. She didn't respond so I texted her again and asked her if she would direct me to someone I could talk to she still has not responded. I sent an email to the company that owns the place and as soon as I told them who I am they stopped responding to me. I don't recall anything in the lease about early termination. I'm trying to do the right thing, take the proper steps, and give them plenty of time because we have to be out by June 1st. Is there anything I'm able to do?

A: Landlord is under no obligation to allow an early termination or to talk to tenant about it. Nothing stops a tenant from moving out, but landlord can then sue tenant for lost rent through the end of the lease term, minus any rent collected from a new tenant.
