Columbus, OH asked in Landlord - Tenant for Ohio

Q: We rent in OHIO. We’ve kept up rent till this coming month we don’t have it.

Our landlord refuses payment from any outside source or legal aides of any kind. And they charge us $700 in eviction “costs” even if we don’t go to court at all if we don’t pay it before the 5th of the month. Is this legal? And what are my options since I have no money to pay for July and it’s almost July 1st….

A: If your local court is not enforcing the eviction moratorium, or if the moratorium expires on June 30 as currently scheduled, then if you cannot work it out with the landlord so you can stay, then the landlord can file an eviction, and you will be evicted. But that process takes about 3 or 4 weeks, so you have time to talk to rental assistance agencies and find another place.
