Q: I have been diagnosed with severe depression. The Insurance company calling and asking me questions. Is it legal?

I have short and long term disability insurance with LifeWorks. They were calling me to ask: what drags do I take, do I have a consular, what am I doing during the day, what I am feeling. When I told them that I am going to record the conversation ( because it felt like intimidation) they told to my employer that they will deny the benefits unless I have unrecorded conversation with them. Is it legal for them to demand me not recording? Is it legal for them to ask me about drugs, consulting , doctor visit, what am I doing during my day, how much I exercise and what am I feeling? They also recommended me to go to their doctor, is it legal for them to force me to go to their doctor?

A: Your post covers a range of categories, and it does not include a state or region. Based on the coverage you mention, it sounds like you could be talking about a disability claim. Meaningfully advising you on these questions might be beyond the brief format of this Q & A Board. You should consider setting up a consult with an attorney - in the state where this matter is pending. Insurance claims, whatever the type, are largely governed by state law. Good luck
