Asked in Immigration Law

Q: Refused at US embassy interview??!

I'm a spouse of a US citizen and I got refused at my interview at the US embassy because me and my husband are first-cousins and marrying first-cousins isn't allowed in the state my husband lives in (Arizona).

Keep in mind we didn't get married in Arizona. We didn't even get married in the US. We got married in Oman, the same country I got interviewed in.

What do you advise me to do

Thank you for your time

A: You should retain counsel to explore the possibility of filing a 601 waiver application. In some circumstances the government may Grant a waiver of this rule against cousin marriage based on the unique facts of your case.
