Q: This is regardingcommpensation for medical negligence at children’s hospital with my son

We were denied X-ray and told Ed was for emergency patients only as he had no fever. I told them he has lvl 3 autism and eats things other than food, had not eaten for over a month could hardly walk & was going grey. Next morning I took him to Chermside hospital as he was worse & also refused a X-ray as he only had a slight fever & told to go to gp if I need X-ray. I made a huge scene using the f word as I knew it was an emergency. They put us to the front of the line, said fine but if nothing is scene don’t come back this is for emergency only. I knew he was an emergency. It ends up he has swollen 17 magnets that had joined in his large intestine. One at bottom was fully corroded. He had bowel reconstruction surgery next day. With 5 surgeons from Victoria, nsw & qld reviewing how to do it. He is now on the list for surgery as he has severe sleep apnea. The surgeon who called me said there was a 2yr wait list & I should go private. I had an appointment last week with ent dr @ qld hos

A: I'm sorry for the ordeal your family has gone through here. However, if you are talking about Victoria, New South Wales, this forum might not be able to offer meaningful guidance. This is for basic questions involving U.S.-based matters.

Although you posted under med mal, your matter looks like it might need someone familiar with navigating the healthcare system in Australia, since a central issue appears to be a two-year wait for surgery under the public healthcare system, as the surgeon you saw recommended private care. If you consulted with local attorneys, they could provide more meaningful direction in terms of what type of legal guidance would best serve you. I wish your son the best.
