Niles, MI asked in Family Law for Michigan

Q: We have joint custody Can I take him to a specialist for treatment without the other parent's permission?

I have Medicaid in MI. Ex took him to Indiana to another doctor because he refuses to believe the child has a gluten allergy and gave me the bills.

A: Neither of you should be taking the child to any doctor, except in an emergency, without the other's knowledge. You both have the right to see records, and agree on courses of treatment. In a dispute, a judge is likely going to side with the opinion of the child's primary physician.
