Q: Can I be arrested for stealing for walking outside to look at the plants they sell when I'm still on the premesis?
I was shopping at home depot and went to the garden center to look for Spanish lavender. I asked an employee where to find it and they told me it was outside on the sidewalk (where they keep hundreds of plants for purchase). I informed that employee and the one at the register that I was going to look at the plants out there and they both told me it was fine. As soon as I stepped past the door the loss prevention stopped me and had me arrested for shoplifting. Is this legal considering I spoke with 2 employees about it first? If they still have items for sale past the register how can someone be arrested for going out to look at them?
A:
Sorry for your issues.
Luckily this happened almost immediately after you spoke to the two employees
and you told the loss prevention folks AND they still have video of this event, so,
it's really a non-issue, right?
A:
THERE HAS TO BE MORE TO THIS.
IS THERE A VIDEO? DID YOU GO BACK TO TALK TO THE PEOPLE YOU HAD TALKED TOO BEFORE? IF SO AND THEY REMEMBER YOU GET A STATEMENT FROM THEM.
DID THEY TRY TO VALIDATE YOUR STORY?
