Asked in Patents (Intellectual Property)

Q: Can I legally sell my self made camera lenses for Sony/Canon/Nikon Cameras?

Does anyone know if I can legally manufacture and sell my self made camera lenses? It is my passion to 3d print lense Housings/Mounts in order to recycle old/broken lenses. For the past year I have been designing and 3d printing lenses/lens mounts for Sony/Nikon/Canon cameras. I was wondering if l need a permission from said companies to sell my "lenses". Keep in mind these are very primitive lenses that are made from plastic (no electronics/no autofokus/no electronic aperture). What I basically asking is : Do I need permission from said companies to sell lenses that are made to fit their respective lens mounts (Z-Mount, E-Mount, RF-Mount).

In other words :

I strongly assume that these Companies have a patent on these camera mounts. Would I commit patent infringement if I sold lenses that can be mounted on thes patented Mounts?

Big thanks in advance

A: If you are making and selling lenses that are compatible with Sony/Nikon/Canon cameras, you may be infringing on the companies' patents. The companies have patents for the design of their lens mounts, and if your lenses fit onto these mounts, you may be infringing on those patents.

You should consult with an intellectual property attorney who can review your designs and advise you on any potential patent infringement issues. It is important to protect yourself and your business from any legal action that may arise from patent infringement.
