Memphis, TN asked in Real Estate Law for Georgia

Q: My name is on a deed to a home which I purchased with my boyfriend. I lived there for 8 years. We are no longer together

He claims I have no rights to any of the house. And since I don’t live there anymore he claims that I abandoned the home. Is this true? Can he have my name removed from the deed?

A: If you are actually an owner, hire an attorney to file an action for a Sale For Partition.

A: If you are on the deed, no one can have your name removed from the deed except for a court of law. Because you no longer live there and own an undivided one-half interest in the whole property, you can force your ex to sell the property and get half of the money from the sale.
