Q: If you have verbally agreed to a plea deal via email but not yet in open court can you change your mind?

A: I am not completely sure what you mean by verbally agree to a plea deal via email, however in answer to your question, you have a right to change your mind, but the prosecution (or other side) also has the right to change its mind and/or be more difficult with you in future negotiations. If you are wanting to change your mind, please advise and discuss with your attorney immediately in order to discuss options and potential consequences. Good luck.

A: The prosecutors may not be happy with you, but if you no longer want to take the plea deal, they can't force you. Criminal pleas must be made freely and voluntarily in order to be accepted by a judge and the court.
