Dallas, TX asked in Landlord - Tenant for Texas

Q: Does landlord have to tell you about changes in your renewal lease? Like they start to charge an amenity fee suddenly

I’ve been living in this apartment for 5 years the quality has decreased tremendously but they constantly increase the price of everything.

A: Yes, the new lease would need to state that the landlord is now charging an amenity fee in order for it to be binding on the tenant, and the tenant would have to agree to it. Otherwise there is no meeting of the minds.

If the tenant does not want to accept the new fee, the landlord will have to decide whether it wants to renew the lease with the tenant without the fee, or allow the lease to end and find a new tenant who will agree to the fee when you move out at the end of the lease term.
