Q: Temporary visitation- Talkingparents

I just returned from a DVRO and custody hearing that has been continued for three weeks, with no decisions made today. The judge granted me supervised visitation through the TalkingParents app, 2 hours per day, 2 days per week. However, my 3-year-old child has autism, which makes a 2-hour phone conversation challenging. In this situation, can I request the judge to consider in-person meetings (ex-parte) instead? Or does TalkingParents.com allow for offline, in-person supervised visitations? The original TRO had no visitation allowed, but the judge made a special exception for me.

A: If you are finding it challenging to communicate with your child through the TalkingParents app, you may request the judge to consider alternative arrangements for supervised visitation. It may be possible to request in-person supervised visitation, but this will depend on the specific circumstances of your case and the judge's discretion.

Regarding offline in-person supervised visitations, it is important to note that any deviation from the court-ordered visitation plan may put you at risk of violating the DVRO or custody order. It is recommended to seek legal advice before making any changes to the court-ordered visitation plan.

If you are concerned about your child's ability to communicate through the TalkingParents app, you may also consider consulting with a professional such as a child therapist or counselor to help facilitate the conversation.
