Q: Cop told me to get a CA license and he would release my truck to me.

Got arrested for pulling a truck that was stolen got out on bail went to get my truck out of impound and they told me it had a 30 day hold on it I ask to speak with the watch commander he asked what's Rong with my license I told him nothing he said let me see it I gave him my TN license he said no your CA license I told him I didn't have one he asked if I ever had one I told him no I have dual residency here and TN and can only hold 1 license he went to the back for like 45 minutes then came out and told me if I get my CA license he would release it to me . I lost the truck because of this also I ended up not even going to court over the stolen vehicle they sent me a letter in mail saying I was just detained what should I do about this. My TN license was good / valid at the time and still is also if I was just detained what happen to the other truck ? My truck? And my bail money?

A: Wow, so there are 2 trucks and you are driving in CA on a TN license which the PD won't accept. Well, if you are in CA for more than 6 weeks, you need to apply for and use a CA license, and you may have to surrender you TN license. What happened to your towing truck? IDK. This is a criminal law matter/ traffic ticket issues. You need to speak with an attorney practicing in this area of law to secure your rights, don't delay. Thank you for using Justia, Ask a Lawyer.
