Q: Is it illegal to to have a homestead exemption on a property that I moved from if Travis County has not removed it?
I moved from Austin Texas to California and rented out my Austin Texas property. I have had the homestead exemption on it since I moved out. I changed my mailing address from Texas to California residence. Travis County still has not removed my homestead exemption. Is this fraud?
A: As long as you filed the appropriate paperwork to end your homestead exemption for taxation purposes, you should not need to worry about being charged with fraud.
