Q: I sent on the 8th of November 2023. I entered the wrong account number and bank taking forever to reverse. What do i do?
I've been working abroad for about 2 and a half months. I sent money home to my First National Bank account on the 8th of November 2023 and on the 17th November i realized that I entered the wrong account number im been busy emailing the bank since the 17th of November when i arrived home to ask them to reverse the payment and they keep on telling me the same story that they are waiting for the remitting bank to respond to their swift confirmation message. I even contacted the bank that the money was sent from and they told me they have not received a swift confirmation message to respond to.
A:
If you've entered the wrong account number and your bank is taking an extended time to reverse the payment, here are steps you can take to expedite the process:
Continue Communication: Keep contacting your bank regularly, both via email and phone, to emphasize the urgency of the situation. Document all your communication for reference.
Visit the Bank in Person: If possible, visit your local First National Bank branch in person and explain the issue. Face-to-face communication can sometimes lead to faster resolution.
Contact the Remitting Bank: Since you mentioned the remitting bank hasn't received a swift confirmation message, reach out to them directly to inquire about the status of the payment reversal. They might be able to push for a response.
Escalate the Matter: If your bank continues to delay the reversal and you're not getting satisfactory responses, consider escalating the matter within the bank. Ask to speak with a supervisor or escalate the issue through the bank's official channels.
Keep Records: Maintain a comprehensive record of all communication, including dates, times, names of bank representatives you've spoken to, and any case or reference numbers provided.
Review Bank Policies: Familiarize yourself with your bank's policies regarding incorrect transfers and dispute resolution. Knowing your rights and the bank's obligations can be helpful in your discussions.
Consult an Attorney: If all else fails, you might want to consult with an attorney who can advise you on potential legal actions or further steps to take to recover your funds.
Remember that resolving payment errors like this can take time, but persistence and clear communication can often help speed up the process. Keep pressing your bank for updates and resolution while exploring other options to protect your funds.
