Staten Island, NY asked in Landlord - Tenant for New York

Q: Our current landlord has sent us notice to vacate premises in 30 days. We are a month to month tenant.

We have lived in this place since October 2022. Landlord said he needed it for other reasons. I thought 60 days was the legal notice amount. Also can we legally ask landlord to help with moving costs i.e. brokers fee, 1st month rent or security especially if we only have 30 days which is short notice when having to pay a minimum of $5500 to move. We also have a 5 yr old that is in school, not sure if that effects anything. Luckily we found a new rental thanks to a neighbor who is a real estate agent but the minimum cost of moving is almost a deal breaker. Also our rent payment is current and we owe nothing to add insult to injury our landlords father made an appearance today and requested entrance to our home without notice for something that involves construction. We let him in with no issue just thought it was required 24 or notice.
