Newark, NJ asked in Estate Planning and Family Law for New Jersey

Q: Property rights after marriage in NJ when adult children are involved.

I am married to a widower with adult children. The home he purchased and paid off during his first marriage is willed solely to his two adult children. Currently, we reside in the home with my two adult special needs children. This is our only home. We took out a second mortgage loan this year for renovations which I help pay half (loan is in his name). Also I pay half of the annual taxes on the home as well as other bills. If he passes away what rights do I have to stay in the home with my special needs children? Am I owed a portion of the home since I helped pay for the renovation loan and taxes? Am I entitled to anything as his wife?
