A: Unfortunately, infidelity in a marriage does not give you any specific right to financial compensation. Michigan is a no-fault divorce state, so anyone can get divorced for any reason. However, infidelity can be one factor in determining the distribution of the marital estate, i.e. the marital property and marital debt. It can also be one of many factors in a determination of spousal support. There are many other factors to be considered in the distribution of property and determination of spousal support, and it would certainly be considered by any attorney. You should have a consultation with an attorney as soon as possible to determine your rights.

Please note that I am a Family Law attorney in Michigan, but not YOUR family law attorney in Michigan. This response is for informational purposes only and does not create any attorney-client relationship. Best wishes.
