Denver, CO asked in Employment Law for Montana

Q: Are you able to be fired, in Montana, solely because your manager does not like you?

I am outside the probationary period by a couple years. Have never received a poor performance review. I am a mid-level manager at a company who oversees the safety of thousands of employees. I am also in charge of staying on top of OSHA regulations and state rules so that the company is not breaking the law. Due to that, I am a stickler for the rules and hold people accountable for their actions so that people do not get hurt and many people do not like me in return, including my boss. I recently received a couple write-ups from my boss because "I am not liked at work" and was threatened to be fired if "I do not make people like me"; including my boss. This all seems very fishy and feels like retaliation for all the violations I have to write up each day. Is this legal?
