Q: If you've lived in a home for years and a new landlord takes over with a new lease can they raise your security deposit?
The rent was raised, but at signing of a new lease from new landlord the security deposit was raised as well. We paid $600 security when we first moved in which we've been in our home for 6 years. They took the security deposit to $1,000 at new landlord lease signing rolled over old deposit which was $600 but had us pay an additional $400 for security deposit. With rent not matching deposit. They are charging a $300 cleaning fee for work that needs done that was caused by maintenance which means we would only get back only $700 when our lease is up but that will be less than the $750 that we will be paying in rent. When we've already paid a full $1,000 for the security deposit.
