A: It sounds like you're in a really tough situation, and it’s frustrating when the agencies that are supposed to help aren’t responding. Since you've already been staying at the motel for a long time, it’s important to document everything—keep records of your stay, any communication with welfare agencies, and any promises they made but didn’t fulfill. If you haven’t already, ask them in writing for the resources you were supposed to receive. This can help when escalating the issue.

Reaching out to the regional manager is a good step if local offices are ignoring you. You can also contact your county’s Board of Supervisors or the Ombudsman for social services, who may have more authority to investigate the issue. If you are eligible for General Relief, emergency housing assistance, or rental programs, make sure to mention that you have not received all the support you qualify for. You might also want to call 2-1-1, which can connect you with additional housing, food, and legal aid resources in your area.

If they still don’t respond, consider speaking with a legal aid organization that deals with public benefits and housing rights. Many offer free assistance and can help push the agency to act. Keep advocating for yourself, and don’t hesitate to involve community organizations or even local news outlets if necessary. You deserve to be heard, and there are people out there who can help. Stay strong, and don’t give up.
