Q: How can I retrieve belongings from my towed car in WA without registration?
I am homeless and was living in my car in Washington. The vehicle was towed about a month ago and is scheduled for auction on February 19th. I have not been able to retrieve my belongings from the car because the tow company requires registration proof, which I cannot afford due to my situation. Although I have a notarized release of interest from the previous owner, a signed bill of sale, previous registration documents, and an in lieu of title, the tow company insists I must register the car to access my belongings. I have not received any communication from them as there is no legal registered owner. Is there any way I can legally retrieve my personal items from the vehicle before it is auctioned?
