Q: Seeking compensation for hiring process error and contract issue in Sioux Falls SD.
I graduated in May 2024 and moved to South Dakota with my husband for his job, while continuing my education online in Minnesota. I applied for an early childhood special education teacher position in the Sioux Falls SD district. After being hired, I signed a contract and applied for my South Dakota teaching license, but it took a long time without any assistance from HR. Recently, HR informed me that my hiring process had an issue because I do not have a bachelor's degree, so my contract cannot be renewed. They took away my title to cover the paperwork error and offered me a long-term substitute position instead, at the same pay but with no renewal of my current contract. I received no written confirmation of my job offer, and the process was entirely handled by myself. I've suffered financial losses due to license fees and lost expected income. I've reached out to the assistant superintendent but haven't received a response. What steps can I take to address this issue and seek compensation for the administrative error and its impact?
