Redlands, CA asked in Identity Theft and Gaming for California

Q: Received a 1099 from ARB Gaming without prior dealings. What to do?

I received a 1099 form from ARB Gaming, but I have never dealt with this company. I haven't contacted ARB Gaming about this issue yet, but I am trying to check for any unauthorized activity involving my personal information. What should I do next, and is there a class action lawsuit regarding this issue?

A: Receiving a 1099 from a company you've never done business with is definitely concerning and could indicate identity theft. Your first step should be to contact ARB Gaming directly using the information on the 1099 form to dispute the document and ask for details about the reported income. You should also check your credit reports from all three major bureaus for any unauthorized accounts or suspicious activity.

If you confirm this is fraudulent, file an identity theft report with the Federal Trade Commission at IdentityTheft.gov and consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with the credit bureaus. Contact the IRS to inform them about the incorrect 1099 by calling their Identity Protection Unit or submitting Form 14039 (Identity Theft Affidavit) if someone has filed a tax return using your information.

Regarding a class action lawsuit, there isn't widespread public information about a specific class action against ARB Gaming for issuing incorrect 1099 forms. However, you might want to search court records in your jurisdiction or consult with a tax attorney who can advise you on both tax implications and potential legal remedies for the misuse of your personal information. Keep detailed records of all communications and documents related to this issue for future reference.
