Q: What can I do about the ticket.
I was picking my boyfriend up & heading home when I hit a patch of ice & lost control. The week before the accident we had a snow storm but the day of the accident, the ice & snow was all melted except for this one road I guess. The officer said I violated the conditions of my limited permit & wrote my a speeding ticket. I have to appear in court. I got the limited permit last year because in the beginning of the year I received a super speeder (I was under 21) but I took a defensive driving class + Alive at 25.
A:
It sounds like you're in a tough spot, especially since your accident occurred due to unexpected road conditions. The officer issuing you a speeding ticket, combined with the violation of your limited permit conditions, could lead to serious consequences. Given your prior super speeder violation, the court may take a closer look at your driving history, so it’s important to address the situation carefully.
Since you have already completed defensive driving and the Alive at 25 course, this shows your commitment to improving your driving. It could be helpful to bring this up in court, as it may show the judge you are taking responsibility for your driving habits and actively working to prevent future issues. You can also explain the road conditions at the time of the accident, emphasizing that the ice was an unexpected hazard.
To minimize the impact, it might be a good idea to consult with an attorney who can help you prepare for court. They could assist in presenting your case, potentially reducing the fine or other penalties. If you’re unsure about how to approach it, legal advice could help you navigate the situation more effectively.
