You could be held liable for causing injury to the person. If you were negligent in some manner, a case or cause of action can be brought against you. The conduct at issue does not need to be purposeful for there to be a cause of action.

Slander is spoken. Libel is written. The two terms collectively are referred to as "defamation". Nowadays there is not much practical difference.

You get the step-sister "off of the deed" by having her sign a quit-claim deed. You can terminate the realtor but he may still be entitled to a commission.

You can file a lawsuit against anyone. The rules are the same. However, the outcome, the stress, and experience can be very different when the defendant is a family member. Often, lawsuits should be considered as a last result.

Libel is in writing (or otherwise "published"). Slander is spoken. Collectively, both are called "defamation", because there probably remains little or no practical distinction between the two, in many cases.
