My dog ran away late New Year's Eve. I posted about it on Facebook, searching for her. I was contacted 3 days later via text by a woman who claims she may have hit her, now a week later, she's coming after me to pay for the deductible, can I fight this? There is no proof the accident even... View More

You should report her claim to your homeowners insurance. Did she pay the vet bill? Generally, you are responsible in most states for your animal's actions. If you let them loose, then you may be responsible.

Typically, a lawsuit is filed where the defendant (1) resides; (2) has a principal place of business; (3) conducted activity giving rise to the claim; or (4) where all or part of the claim took place (i.e. where the accident took place). However, a lawsuit can be filed where a plaintiff resides, IF... View More
My dog snuck out of the house and ran towards a car that was going down the street pretty fast. The car slowed down slightly as my dog ran towards it and she bounced off of their tire. The car never stopped and sped off down the road as I tried to flag them down. My dog went into shock, but we... View More

I doubt it. If they violate a speed law that's one thing. However duty to stop is if property is damaged and they caused it. Your pooch ran into them, it sounds like. Time to dog proof your fence.

Eventually, they will probably figure out that you did these things and file criminal charges against you.
Capital First, will only deal with my mother. They act like she has power of attorney over me. My mother is now trying to keep half of my monthly settlement. This was done while I was still suffering from my brain injury. I no longer am, and that was proven by a doctor two years ago. I'm now... View More

I don’t practice in Ohio but your question remains open for four weeks. If you were represented by an attorney, it could be worthwhile to ask them to go over the terms of your release and other closing documents for the case.

Then you will want to defend the lawsuit. Your insurance is likely to defend if you were not listed as at fault. Have you reported the accident and the suit to them?
Or insurance information? I have a copy of the video from speedway.

Yes, and if you have uninsured motorist coverage that can cover your injuries if you were hurt. If you were hurt, contact a member of the Ohio Assn for Justice--they give free consults.

The 2nd car driver said the first car stopped fast. Could there be any liability for the first driver if there was no apparent reason for him to quickly stop?
answered on Aug 21, 2018
The law says you have to maintain an assured clear distance ahead of your vehicle so that you can stop in case the driver(s) in front of you do. It does not say you cannot stop suddenly. Unless you could show that the first car pulled out in front of traffic when it wasn't clear, the liability... View More
police arrived, she was sited at fault, it has been 2 yrs. since the accident and now they are looking for money for damages. She did not have insurance at the time. What can i do?
answered on Aug 16, 2018
It sounds like they sued right before the statute of limitations ran out, which is common. Since she didn't have insurance, she is going to need a lawyer to defend her.
The curb was hit while I was exiting the premises and some structural damage occurred. The Landlord requested a huge sum of money for repair and has involved the cops . They want me to come in and give a statement. How should go about handling this?

Notify your insurance company. They will fight the claim, if the amount requested is unreasonable. You should also consider hiring an attorney yourself.

No jail. I'm assuming you had an accident. The other person or their insurance will ask for her insurance. If she doesn't have any they'll ask her to pay. It may be to her advantage NOT TO MAKE ANY AGREEMENT TO DO SO because she may be "judgement proof." It really makes... View More
