A: A court rule permits written pleas of not guilty in certain misdemeanors, under certain circumstances. A defendant submitting such a plea, however, must be represented by a lawyer. Incredibly, there are even some district courts which allow submission of a guilty plea and sentencing, both, without the need to appear in court. Those cases usually involve the lowest level 'technical' type misdemeanors and a defendant with no criminal record, whatsoever. In order to determine whether any particular matter could be disposed of in that manner, a lawyer would need to review the complete details of the case.
