Q: Hello! My mother had ankle replacement surgery in Nov. A week later she fell and opened a pressure sore on her heel.
March she wanted surgery as soon as she could get an sugery appointment. So I said O.K. let me know so I can tell Publix so I can take the day off. Mom said No, Iam going when the surgeon has an opening I can.t take the pain I've got to get in. She called Publix March 27 and said her surgery was available for April 2nd. But my schedule was already made out for the 2nd. Publix said I would have to get a replacement for the day and that after Publix told me her friend would have to take her or my brother who works 7 days aweek. So i marked it in the computer as a Family Leave Act and that was 3 days notice then I told the manager's help that I had to be taking her, so I did. I took the 2nd off, Publix called my house and on the 3rd I was written up for a no call-noshow. Publix said they would have granted the leave if I had asked around to get a replacement, but mom wanted me as her care giver, what did I do wrong. I had a the doctor write up the excuse it was a cronic medical condition
