Q: Attempting to keep my daughter on health insurance but the mother refuses to give me her ss#. How do I petition?
A: If there is a court order requiring you to provide health insurance for the benefit of your daughter, the mother can be required to give you her SS#. If she refuses, you can file a motion for contempt to force her to provide the SS#. If there is no court order, you have no obligation to provide health insurance and you cannot force the mother to provide you with your daughter’s SS#. However, unless you and the mother are living together, you need to pay child support for the child. If you and the mother have never been married, even if you are living together, you should consider filing a petition to legitimate the child.
