Q: I was pulled over for driving without insurance, but then I got insured later Is there anyway I can avoid a violation
A:
It depends largely on the courtroom. Most likely, you will not be able to fully escape liability for this ticket. The good news is that you will receive greater consideration for leniency when your ticket is resolved. The normal fine is around $500 but many jurisdictions will reduce this to around $250-350 if you can show proof of after-aquired insurance. If the insurance is dated VERY close to the ticket date (next day or that same day), some counties will be particularly lenient and dismiss the ticket altogether.
With an order of court supervision, the most likely outcome, you will prevent a license suspension for 3-6 months as would be the case if you had a violation and received a conviction. Any instances of supervision on insurance cases requires the defendant to hold SR-22 insurance for 36 months continuously. This is just a fancy word meaning the insurance company monthly reports to the secretary of state that you have an active policy. If you allow this to lapse, you will face a suspension and a $100 reinstatement fee so make sure to stay on top of it.
I've included a document detailing how SR-22 works and explaining what your obligations are under it and how to acquire it. https://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/publications/pdf_publications/dsd_sr84.pdf
Hope that helps!!
