Far Hills, NJ asked in Juvenile Law for New Jersey

Q: I will be attending court for my 6 year old son for truancy what can I expect I have never been through this.

My 6 year old little guy missed more days than "allowed" from school and now I have been summoned to appear in court for truancy. What should I expect or take with me I have never even been to court for a traffic ticket.

A: You should retain counsel. This is no joke. At 6 years old, there is no reason that this should happen. The Division of Child Protection and Permanency takes this seriously. You could be charged with child abuse, child neglect even endangering the welfare of a child. Good luck.
