A: Hello Asker,

I would recommend that you contact an attorney. This is a very serious ticket which will likely carry a very hefty fine if you plead to it as is. Additionally, you will be COMPLETELY unable to receive court supervision without an amendment to the ticket to a lower level charge. These amendments are much easier to come by when represented by an attorney familiar with the courtroom. This is the end result that you should minimally desire from this ticket given the circumstances.

Because it is such short notice, you may need to go into court and ask the court for time to bring a lawyer. If it is your first appearance, they will give you the continuance. During that time, you can speak to several attorneys to determine which is best for you and your case. Regardless of what you do, you should at the very least speak to an attorney about your driving record BEFORE you go into court because an offense like this can easily result in a suspension of your license if your record cannot take the hit of this offense.

Hope that helps!
