Q: If I'm under 18 and I got a ticket for using my cell phone and I paid the ticket, will it "disappear" after some time?
By "disappear" I mean after so many years will it be removed from my record?
A:
Hello Asker,
No, this ticket will not disappear from your record merely as a consequence of time. If you paid the ticket and mailed it in, you will either receive court supervision or a conviction. Court supervision appears only on non-public records but a conviction is viewable by employers and insurance companies. Oftentimes this can form the basis for a rate increase. This can be removed after a period of years if it is supervision but to be completely honest, the value of doing so is very much outweighed by the cost and effort required. In truth, cell phone tickets are not serious violations unless one of the below applies.
The good news is that as long as it was your first cell phone ticket and you did not receive this ticket while you were operating a commercial motor vehicle, or were in a construction, school, or emergency zone, it will not be counted as a moving violation and that is critical towards it not counting as a points offense which can easily suspend your license at your age. If you would like further clarification on the damage this ticket could have on your license regarding those issues, I would be available to speak on that matter by phone or email.
Hope that helps!
