A:
Hello Asker,
It's difficult to ascertain what has happened with your case based upon your description. What I can say is that if you received a conviction for the speeding offense, you WILL NOT be able to get a license for at least 9 months after that date of conviction when it is reported to the secretary of state. That is what would happen as far as drivers licensed in Illinois. You will need someone to investigate what your Illinois record looks like to determine if it will affect your driving privileges in the new state you reside in. In the worst case scenario, the secretary of state can suspend you for convictions for insurance related offenses for either 3 or 6 months at the secretary of state's discretion. Alternatively, the secretary of state can suspend you for failing to get SR22 (a requirement for 36 months IF you receive court supervision). If you are out of the state, this can be waived with the filing of proper documents. What I can say is that if your insurance ticket was NOT dismissed, you need to contact an Illinois attorney to investigate what happened with that ticket because those can easily result in suspensions of driving privileges if you do not take proper action. I would schedule a free consultation to investigate what is the current state of your Illinois tickets to prevent a license suspension if any are pending.
Sincerely,
