Sellersville, PA asked in Animal / Dog Law for New Jersey

Q: Can I sue someone who fraudulently sold me a sick dog while pretending to be a non profit?

I adopted a dog from NJ from a supposed 501 c 3 non profit shelter. I immediately noticed that the dog had medical issues that was not disclosed to me at the time of adoption once the dog was brought home nor did I receive proper medical records to show what any treating veterinarians discovered with their exams. Further research would show that the non profit is not listed on the irs.gov website as a 501 c 3. I feel that the adoption contract should be null & void due to fraud. I want to know if I can sue the owner of the shelter for fraud, ask for my adoption fee back & medical expenses that my dog has incurred. A person who sells sick animals under the guise of a non profit should be held accountable.

A: You should be able to sue. You need to retain an experienced attorney who handles these type of cases. Good luck.
