A: Hello Asker,

Technically speaking, it means the prosecution who granted you court supervision have the right to not only revoke your supervision, but also resentence you. In practice, this results in a conviction being assessed against you. The danger there is that certain tickets, if convicted, can trigger a suspension. Even worse, some counties as a matter of practice waive notice of hearings to revoke supervision when they offer plea sentences, most notably Kane and Lake county. This means a conviction could occur without your knowledge and result in a suspension. Some of the most common examples include operating an uninsured motor vehicle, certain driving while license suspended violations, and situations where you receive too many moving violations.

In your situation, it would be advisable to at least speak to an attorney for a consultation so that they can investigate the tickets your supervision may be revoked on as well as settle your insurance and speeding matters in a way that protects your driving privileges. My best recommendation at this time is to contact the secretary of state to ensure they have your current mailing address and speak to an attorney ASAP so that you might head this off before it's too late.

Hope that helps and let me know if you have further questions!

Sincerely,

Jason A. Wilkins
