Plainfield, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: Received a ticket following an accident, officer put the other driver on the ticket by mistake. What should I do?

Following a minor traffic accident, I received a ticket for "disregarding a traffic control light". After returning home, I noticed the Officer that filled out the ticket had put the other driver on the ticket by mistake. None of my personal information, outside of my vehicle information, appears on the ticket. As it stands, it appears that the ticket was issued to the other driver, however; it should be issued to me.

A: Hello Asker,

My recommendation would be to speak to an attorney who can look up the ticket and determine what the clerk has entered regarding the ticket. It is entirely possible that the case may not be in the system and it would be very likely that you will not face any penalty. Before going into court, you will want to know the circumstances surrounding the ticket and identify whether you actually are required to appear.

Hope that helps and let me know if you have further questions!

Sincerely,
