Chicago, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: My license was suspended when I was 20. Do I need to take the class still to get my lisence back?

Now that I turned 21 would I still need to take the safety driving class to be able to get my license back or do I still need that class?

A: Hello Asker,

The answer is yes and no. It depends on how you fix the issue. Whenever your license is suspended for being convicted of two moving violations before turning 21 within a 24 month period, your license enters a status called invalidation. During this period, even if the suspension has ended, you will need to take a traffic class with the National Safety Council for around $90 before your privileges can be validated once more even if the suspension has ended. Turning 21 does not in my understanding remove this obligation.

I say it isn't a requirement because a traffic attorney can relitigate one of these older cases that caused the suspension and not only remove the suspension from your record restoring your privileges but we can also remove the requirement for this class.

Hope that helps and let me know if you have further questions!

Sincerely,
