Asked in Family Law for Louisiana

Q: How do I stop child support, have the mother pay, and receive reimbursement in overage?

My son is 17, 18 in Nov. He moved into my house in August 2015 to attend community college. I have asked the state of Louisiana to stop child support and have her start paying. They requested I supply his school registration showing my address as proof he is living with me. That is not possible since he was registered using his mothers address. The proof I do have is a text from his mother saying she received a call from the state and told them he is living there but she still gives him money. I also have a picture of a mail label where my son received a package to my house. I requested the support be stopped as soon as he started school and moved in full time. The system that the state has in place is not good. You go online or telephone to make a request; they have 48hrs to call back, if you miss that call then you have to repeat the process. It is very easy for two weeks to pass with no answer or help given. I would also like to be reimbursed for taxes lost from her claiming my son

A: Basically, you cannot get the help you need without hiring an attorney in my opinion.
