Q: My wife got ticket for speeding at 40 mph in a 25 mph zone. do we pay 120 $ or 140 $. There is no amt on ticket.
My wife says that the police said not to pay because she has good record. I think we have to pay a fine because we got the instructions for payment by mail or internet form. When i go to the internet to pay it says "Payment option not available at this time".

Hello Asker,
As long as your wife wasn't speeding in a construction or school zone and wasn't issued any other tickets, she should be able to pay this online. That said, there is a delay in tickets being received and processed by the Clerk of the Circuit Court (the entity you actually pay). While the ticket is reaching the clerk's office, there is no way to pay them since they literally don't have any record of the ticket. If your ticket was issued by an entity other than the Illinois State Police, it should be entered within a week of the issuance of the ticket. If it was the Illinois State Police, I've known it to take as much as a few weeks.
As for the exact amount to pay, I would contact the Clerk of the Circuit Court of the county that the ticket was issued in. They will be able to give you a complete explanation of the amount due.
Hope that helps and please let me know if you have any questions or need clarification.
Sincerely,
Jason A. Wilkins
