A: Normally a fee agreement covers 1) the fee and 2) the costs. In some cases the costs can be significant--as with product liaiblity cases, for instance. You should receive an itemized list of the expenses. The fee agreement will say whether or not interest is charged and its rate. The lawyer isn't "making" that money--it's money they lay out. If the costs are 80k, think of it as the lawyer having spent the downpayment on a very nice house or on several acres of rural real estate. They risk that, if successful get it back but they aren't making money, just getting back what they spent.
