West Bloomfield, MI asked in Personal Injury, Real Estate Law and Landlord - Tenant for Indiana

Q: Landlord illegally threw out my father's personal effects (photos and ID) days before he pass ed away. What can be done?

My father was dx'd with cancer in February 2016, I informed landlord and made arrangements to pick up his personal effect, but when I came to the apt on the date, I found out that all of my father's personal effects were thrown in a land field, including all of his photos and Identification. My father passed away about a week later, this was painstaking to plan my father's funeral and it was especially painful not to have anything of my fathers belongings. I sent letter to landlord and sent documents that support I was personal executive, but it's been more than 30 days since I sent letter. I left phone message with no response. What can I do? and How?

A: I'd try calling to police first and talking to a local attorney who handles landlord/tenant cases.
