A: Hello Asker,

In this situation, your chances of suspension are rather high. Especially if you have ever received a prior ticket outside of these three. A suspension will result if you receive TWO convictions stemming from moving violations that were issued within 24 months of one another.

Here is what I can say. First, DO NOT MAIL ANY TICKET IN OR PAY THE FEE AND PLEAD GUILTY. Doing so will almost certainly guarantee a suspension. The reason being that most prosecutors as a rule deny court supervision requests made out of court if the driver has, within the past 12 months, received a ticket. The best thing you can do is to be prepared to go to court for as many of the tickets as possible.

Second, go to the secretary of state and request a court purposes abstract. This is a driving record that your attorney will need to help you prevent a license suspesion. It will tell them what tickets need to be addressed in what manner. You can get it from the DMV by going to any location and requesting one at the front desk. They will give you a form to complete and it will cost $12.

Lastly, start calling lawyers. Schedule free consultations and find one that you feel comfortable with. Many lawyers will do traffic tickets on the side and you have to be careful. Find one who knows traffic law. They should at a minimum be able to read the abstract, be familiar with what can cause your license to be suspended, and how to identify whether the violation is a moving violation. If they cannot do all three, you should not have them represent you because they may be flying by the seat of their pants as some attorneys do who dabble occasionally in traffic tickets.

Hope that helps!

Sincerely,

Jason A. Wilkins
