I was Driving 29mph over the speed limit, and the officer took my license away on bond. And I have a court dat in 20 days so basically what should I do ? Is there chances that i can get arrested? And if not how much fine do you think that i will have to pay. Thank You
A:
Hello Asker,
First and foremost, your license was taken as bond because the charge you face is not a minor traffic ticket. You are charged with traveling 26-34 miles per hour over the posted limit. It is a class B Criminal Misdemeanor punishable by up to $1,500 fine and/or 6 months in jail. As a consequence of this, it is very likely the judge will want you to have an attorney. As for the fine, it will be significantly more than a regular speeding ticket and unlike those tickets, it cannot be paid through the mail. Since you have written this email, you have been released without being arrested. You should not expect to be arrested because your license is providing bond for your release. Jail is rarely used for these types of speeding offenses but all the same, it is recommended that you have an attorney to avoid the criminal misdemeanor and prevent serious damage to your license/insurance rates.
Hope that helps!
Sincerely,
Jason A. Wilkins
