Grand Rapids, MI asked in Criminal Law for Michigan

Q: What does it mean when a Parole Board "terminates" a case to start a second sentence? No parole restrictions?

My son is in prison for CSC 3rd Degree, with a minimum of 3yr 9mo max of 15 years. He has served 5 years. While incarcerated, he was charged with a weapons charge and sentenced to 14 mo. The parole board terminated his first case so he could start his second sentence of 14 mo. Does that mean he will be done after the 14 months, and released without parole restrictions?

A: No. As a result of the second conviction his current file was closed. A new file that includes the current file was created. A new time will be set for his next parole hearing for the combined file.
