Q: Dog bite to little girl and being sued and wanting dog put down
Little girl we babysit was bit by my dog in the face. Parents say that if we put dog down they will not want anything other then that. Girl is 5 and tried to pull dog away from food that she had been giving him. What do i do
A: This isn't so much a legal question but I would advise if they give you a full release then it would not be inappropriate to put the dog down as the dog has had "one bite" and thereafter the law would expect you to take significant precautions. But they are certainly free to ask that--and you are free to respond.
A: That is a moral question. I am a doglover and owner, and would not personally put my dog down. As a lawyer, I would simply state your options and let you decide whether losing your pet was worth getting a release from liability.
A: I could never personally put a dog down, as I'm a dog lover and if this is the first time your dog has ever bit anyone you probably won't be held liable, but you will be the next time because the dog has already shown a violent propensity. You've got a tough decision to make and one I hope I never have to make myself. Good luck and I'm sorry you have to go through this.
